Mission

The ISTQB Expert Level working party ultimately aims at defining the ISTQB expert level modules, based upon and following the ISTQB advanced level.

Status

Over the last period a formal (high level) description document of the ISTQB expert level has been developed, voting upon, accepted and released. This document is now publicly available through the ISTQB web site.

Following a vote a subgroup within the working party is currently working on defining the continuous education policy. According to the plan this document will be sent for ISTQB review early januari at the latest and will be submitted for the march meeting for approval.

The expert level working party has performed a market survey, especially in those countries that are active at a second level of certification. The full report has been sent to all ISTQB board member. The results will be presented together with a proposed road map for the future at the Seoel meeting.

The group working on the “improving the testing process’ expert level module has finalized the syllabus at approximately 70%. Much focus from these members has been spent on the advanced level working party recently making progress slower than was expected. With the release of the AL working party, this syllabus now has focus again and is expected to be submitted for review and release at the march meeting.

The IP forms and working party agreements have been sent to all WP members. Those members who have returned their signed forms have been indicated with a . Currently only 2 out of 13 members have returned their form.

Following the ISTQB vote a subgroup within the working party has developed a continuous education policy. The document has been reviewed internally. It is expected that the draft document will be sent out for review end of march 2008.

In addition progress has been made on the first expert level module “Improving the testing process”. A detailed plan and schedule for release has been defined and will be presented at the March meeting.

The expert level working party hopes that at the March meeting agreement can be reached on two more expert level modules to be developed. If not, no real progress can be achieved with the expert level.

Based on the decision made at Zurich, we have been very busy is getting resources for the two new modules: Test Management and Test automation. We have now succeeded to build quality teams!! Still awaiting the names of the contributors of the UK (which is why Geoff Thompson is CAC’s). All members have signed the NDA and IP documents.

Improving the testing process (chair: Graham Bath)
The group has been working hard on getting the first two chapters ready and some discussion on the format and role of LO has slowed things down. The first two chapters will be ready for internal review soon. Updated planning is required,
delivery expected end 2008.

Test Management (chair; Rex Black)
Group is now ready to start, they have started to defined the scope and major sources for the test management module.

Test automation (Chair: Andrew Pollner)
Group is now ready to start, , they have started to defined the scope and major sources for the test management module.

Specials (Chair: Silvio Moser)
This group has worked hard on the completion of the Continuous Education Policy; Both internal and full ISTQB reviews have been performed. All comments have been addressed and this document which is now to be sent to the ISTQB for formal approval. Once this document is approved, this group will start to work on the exam guidelines.

The expert level working party now has real momentum, e specially the “Improving the Testing Process” and Test Management” (both due for a beta release in June), “Test Automation” is making progress and also the specials subgroup has started to work on the ISTQB Expert exam guidelines.

Improving the testing process (chair: Graham Bath)
The first four (eight in total) chapter have been sent out for internal review. Chapters 5 and 6 are almost ready for an internal review. A meeting has been scheduled in April by the core-authors to discuss the critical findings in the reviews. Delivery of a beta release in scheduled for June 2009; full release in scheduled for October 2009.

Test Management (chair; Rex Black)
Much work has been carried out by this group. In January a meeting was held in the US with several participants on phone. The scope has by now been defined, including the draft LO’s. A document will be sent out shortly for a validation review. Delivery of a beta release in scheduled for June 2009; full release in scheduled for October 2009.

Test automation (Chair: Andrew Pollner)
The group has started to define topics; initially there was low involvement from most co-authors and reviewers. This now seems to have changed. (Scheduled for release June 2010).

Specials (Chair: Silvio Moser)
This group has now started on the development of the ISTQB Expert level guidelines. The test management subgroup has submitted a paper with ideas as a major input. A plan is currently being made. Scheduled for release in September 2009.
